Intro to Observational Drawing

2 Week Course

Intro to observational drawing will focus the basics of measurement and sighting along with contour line drawing and transparent construction. There will be a focus on strategies to engage the right brain in the practice of drawing to draw what we see not what we know. In the last class we will also begin looking at techniques for shading and creating value. The primary media for this class will be graphite pencils on paper. Drawings will be primarily executed from observation.

• Required Materials: 11x14” Drawing Pad or Similar Sketchbook

• Set of 6 Derwent drawing/ sketching pencils (or similar quality pencil) (3B, 2B, B, HB, H & 2H) 

• Factus Pen Eraser 

• Mars Plastic Eraser or similar Vinyl Eraser.
